Hello Students and Families,
Welcome to the Davis School for Independent Study! I am honored to continue to serve as your principal. My journey in education began over 20 years ago as a teacher in a traditional setting. While I felt a tremendous connection to my work as a classroom teacher, it was not until I found independent study in 2014 that I truly understood the importance of flexibility within the educational system. I have always been passionate about alternatives in education. There is no single way to learn and I love independent study’s ability to personalize an innovative learning experience that supports students in taking an active role in their education.
Independent study is unique in that it allows students to learn in 1:1 and small group settings from teachers who are experts in their fields while also developing the independent learning skills needed to be successful in their education, future profession, and life. Additionally, because students are not bound to traditional school hours, students in independent study find that they have time to pursue other interests and aspects of life such as community service, internships, personal wellness, and college classes.
At DSIS meaningful relationships are at the heart of our work. The authentic connection that forms between students and staff members serves as the foundation upon which students grow and thrive. I look forward to partnering with each of you this coming year as we strive to provide the best possible educational experience for our students.
