CANVAS
DSIS uses Canvas as our learning management system (LMS) for students all students in grades 7 to 12 and some in K-6. Canvas enables our students, parents and teachers to engage with learning materials and their school community from the classroom and beyond. We look forward to using Canvas in our courses to enhance connectivity and communication across our school. With Canvas, students can digitally submit homework assignments, review grades, participate in interactive discussions, receive announcements and feedback, take tests, write academic blogs, and more. Canvas is similar to what students will use at all colleges and universities upon graduation. As a parent, you will be able to view your child’s activity within the platform.
A few key features of Canvas include:
- Students can view course assignments, grades and specific feedback from their teachers.
- Students can collaborate with their peers from home via discussion boards.
- Students have access to course materials 24 hours a day no matter where they are via the internet or the Canvas mobile apps on their smart phones.
- No more confusion about due dates! Students can check due dates any time, and connect their email/smartphone/other digital calendaring devices directly to Canvas so they will know immediately if dates change!
- Students can connect their Google Drive accounts directly making turning in assignments simple, and eliminating the need for Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
- Parents are able to view student progress, assignment due dates and overdue notifications.
